genARTS is proud to present our How To Art Series where artists can gain and build upon existing skills to manage the art world. In this series, we host panels, workshops, performances, and networking sessions for emerging and established artists in San Jose and the greater Santa Clara County. genARTS aims to create a space where artists can immediately put theory into practice and receive personalized guidance from experts in the field. All events are free!
Workshops
Session 1: Creative Career Panel
​This panel educated artists on different perspectives of how to build a sustainable creative career and business in Silicon Valley. The panel featured practicing artists working in different artistic disciplines and at varying career stages.
Session 2: Artist Statement and Artist Resume/CV
Participants learned how to write and improve their artist statement and resume from our experienced workshop presenters, Tricia Creason-Valencia and Alyssarhaye Graciano
​Session 3: Demystifying Grant Writing and Portfolio Building
Artists ​learned grant writing best practices, how to write a competitive proposal, and where to search for funding opportunities from our experienced grant writer, Michelle Wallace.
(Upcoming 5/19/25) Session 4: Portfolio Review​
​The Portfolio Review will feature a panel of artists from various fields including the performing arts, visual arts, music, and literary arts. After the panel, sign up for a ten-minute one-on-one portfolio review session with one of the panelists. Sign ups will be at the check-in table on the night of the event. Be sure to bring a hardcopy of your portfolio or a device to show your portfolio digitally!
