genARTS proudly presented our How To Art Series where artists gained and built upon existing skills to manage the art world. In this free series, we hosted panels, workshops, performances, and networking sessions for emerging and established artists in San Jose and the greater Santa Clara County. genARTS aimed to create a space where artists can immediately put theory into practice and receive personalized guidance from experts in the field. This series was supported by the City of San Jose Office of Cultural Affairs' take pART grant.
Workshops
Session 1: Creative Career Panel
​This panel educated artists on different perspectives of how to build a sustainable creative career and business in Silicon Valley. The panel featured practicing artists working in different artistic disciplines and at varying career stages.
Session 2: Artist Statement and Artist Resume/CV
Participants learned how to write and improve their artist statement and resume from our experienced workshop presenters, Tricia Creason-Valencia and Alyssarhaye Graciano
​Session 3: Demystifying Grant Writing and Portfolio Building
Artists ​learned grant writing best practices, how to write a competitive proposal, and where to search for funding opportunities from our experienced grant writer, Michelle Wallace.
Session 4: Portfolio Review​
​The Portfolio Review featured a panel of artists from various fields including the performing arts, visual arts, music, and literary arts. After the panel, artists signed up for ten-minute one-on-one portfolio review sessions with the panelists.
